Fish Design - Hand Painted Box
A useful and attractive wooden box to store all the “little ones” that got away! A natural wood finish enhances the country feel of this hand painted box. A fish design on the lid celebrates not just the sport of angling but the Celtic symbol for wisdom. The design is burned into the wood before painting. The box is then given a coat of acrylic laquer.

Symbol of Wisdom
The Celts belief in animism, attribution of a soul to natural objects and phenomena, also encompassed the belief that communication between the natural world was possible. Trees and springs, rocks or mountains were often thought to have spirits or deities dwelling within. At such places Offerings would be left or shrines built to worship such deities. Trees such as the oak and ash were considered sacred.
In Ireland the well of Segais was the well of knowledge. It was said to be surrounded by nine hazel trees, the nuts of the trees were said to give whoever ate them the gift of all knowledge. The salmon that swam in the well ate the nuts and gained all the knowledge of the world. Hence, salmon were considered the wisest of all the animals. It was also a belief that knowledge could be gained by eating salmon.
Is this where the idea of fish being “brain food” came from?
