The Cat
The domestic cat is just a little bit of wild. Lithe bodied, independent and curious, overstuffed, comfort-loving, underfoot and always ready for a head or belly rub. If your cat is anything like my cat Willow - all the above and then some! Our family's definition for cat is “It's on the wrong side of the door.” No sooner in than he wants to be out and vice versa!
These decorative boxes are hand painted then given a protective coat of laquer. A useful trinket or jewelry box. We use ours for storing all kinds from a cache of cough drops for cold spells - to cat treats!

The Cat - History and Mystery
Egyptians were known to idolize cats and treated them like royalty. A cemetery was found that contained thousands of mummified cats. To kill a cat was punishable by death and if the family cat died the Egyptians would shave off their eyebrows in mourning. Bast, the Egyptian goddess of the moon is depicted as a cat or cat-headed woman. Bast is known as the goddess of love, fertility, birth, music and dance as well as cats.
Latvian farmers believed black cats in their grain stores to be the spirit of Rungis, a harvest god. The Chinese took the opposite view believing black cats to would bring poverty and famine. One time in Britain black cats were thought to prevent danger occurring to fishermen. Fishermen's wives would keep black cats to ensure the safety of their husbands at sea.
Apparently, some say: To dream of a black cat is lucky; if you dream of a ginger cat, you will be lucky in money and business; dream of a tabby cat and you will have luck for your home and all who live there. I say if you want to hedge your bets - buy both cat boxes and quit dreaming!
